Des Kilfeather is a Sussex based artist, inspired mostly by research into philosophy and ethics, exploring the elapsed time from Aristotle, through James Joyce to now. Des has participated in several recent exhibitions in the UK including the Royal College of Art London, Dublin, Florence and Berlin.
Since studying at the Universities of Brighton and Sussex (West Dean) and Portsmouth leading to his Masters Degree in Fine Art, Des has been exhibited twice plus shortlisted once in the UK National Open Art Exhibition, winning a prize in 2010. He is an invited life term member of the Italy Florence Biennale. His James Joyce body of work was exhibited in a four month solo exhibition at the Dublin Writers Museum, sponsored by Failte Ireland. His 2015 print for the Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice, Big Heart 2015 Auction achieved 58 bids.
Employing multiple levels of metaphor and complexity; emotional and philosophical, Des believes, “every reception of a work of art is both an interpretation and a performance of it, because in every reception the work takes on a fresh perspective for itself”. (Umberto Eco - The Poetics of the Open Work//1966).
